How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki works by realigning the balance associated with the energy system (chakras, meridians, etc.).
Through this process, Reiki cleanses the subtle energy circuits by removing blocks or stagnant energy.
After the proper flow of energy has been established, balance is then returned. This energy permeates all aspects of one's being, therefore, Reiki can heal on multiple levels.
Your first Reiki attunement and how it works
After the usual paper work you will be asked to either sit in a chair or lay on the Reiki table. During the session the Reiki Practitioner will either touch you with her hands or hold her hands just above your body to channel the flow of Reiki into you. Your range of feeling can go from feeling nothing to feeling the subtle flow of the energy as it passes into yu. You may become so relaxed that you go to sleep or you may even dream and meet personal guides during the session. This all depends on just how open you are to receiving the energy.

The Definition of Reiki
Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") means Universal (Rei) Life Energy (Ki). Ki is the non-physical energy that animates all living things. The Ki is also the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life. The Universal Life Energy, or Reiki, is gained through receiving attunements during a special initiation ceremony. The attunement opens a channel in the giver which allows the energy to flow through to wherever it is needed the most in the receiver. This can occur on all levels, physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a system of holistic energy healing which utilizes the Universal Life Force. This practice was introduced by Midaomi Usui in the mid-1800's. Mikao Usui was principal of the Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, and also a Christian minister. Reiki utilizes the Life Force known as Ki, in Japanese. To utilze the Ki, Reiki, simply involves the channeling of the energy when it permeates all matter in an intense or concentrated focused fashion. Reiki's origins stem from Buddhist and Shinto practices. The energy that is Reiki is that same energy that many other healing systems have used throughout history since before the beginning of time. The role of the Reiki practitioner is as an open channel by which the Reiki energy flows to the recipient. Other systems normally require the conscious control of the energy to make it flow towards the recipient.
What can be expected after the first Reiki Attunement?
After the first Reiki attunement it may take three or four weeks to adjust. During the time following the attunement Reiki energy may start flowing at odd non-healing moments. Some may find themselves feeling spacey or tingly, intense dreams including past life experiences, other symptoms that can include diarrhea, running nose, or increased urination. Any or all of these may occur in some, while other may notice nothing. The client should still feel well even with these symptoms. What is happening is that the Reiki energy, is adjusting and increasing your capacity to channel it. More Ki energy is entering one's aura and body than has been experienced in the past. The aura and chakras are clearing.
In the event that this process becomes uncomfortable, doing either self-healing or having another rebalance of the energy will then decrease these new sensations. After receiving Reiki for the first time, it is best to do as many healing sessions as possible for at least the first month. This would also include regular daily self-healing treatments.

Will Reiki Heal Everything?
Reiki has the potential to restore harmony to the human body and, with this in mind, could defeat any disease or illness that may be present. A Reiki practitioner should never claim that Reiki can cure everything. In the event that someone make these claims, walk away and look for another practitioner. Always keep in mind that many factors are involved and that the most important of those is the client. To say the very least, Reiki will give strength to the whole physical and spiritual nature of the person by restoring the vital energy flow within the body is just being honest.
Each Reiki session is measure by the need of the client and the flow of the Reiki energy. The length of the session may run anywhere from 50 minutes to 90 minutes. Reiki will continue until sufficient Ki energy has been channeled into the needed areas. The practitioner will know this by the fact that the flow of energy will change between client and practitioner.
